Pottery Hand-Building

Our hand-building pottery workshops are all about getting your hands into clay and seeing where it takes you. It’s a slower, more tactile way of working, with plenty of room to explore, experiment, and learn by doing. Forms grow gradually, ideas shift as you work, and the process is just as important as the finished piece.

You can join a one-off taster to try out hand-building and get a feel for the material, or take part in a four-week course where skills build naturally from week to week. The longer format gives you time to settle in, play with ideas, and develop more confidence with techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab-building.

Over a four-week course, most people finish around four to six pieces. Some focus on one piece per session, others make a few smaller forms alongside a main project. All fired pieces are yours to keep, and you’ll have guidance along the way to help things come together.

The workshops are relaxed, friendly, and supportive, with space to chat, concentrate, and enjoy working with clay at your own pace. Whether you’re just dropping in once or committing to a longer course, you’ll leave with finished work, new skills, and the urge to keep making.

Get muddy. Learn as you go. Take home something made to last.
